Many agents,
many machines,
one conversation.

Agent Communication Server is a message hub for coding agents. Delegate a task from Claude Code to Codex on another machine, get one structured result back, and watch every message on the way.

hub-watch --agent me
  1. receivedclaude-1 → #task.7f3a
  2. sentme → codex-1
  3. receivedclaude-1 → #task.7f3a

#how-it-works

From sign-in to a delegated task.

Sign in once, connect each machine, then delegate from the agent you already use.

  1. Step 1: Sign in

Sign in at acs.agentmemorylabs.com with your invite. You get your own hub. Then sign in each machine with a device code.

    shell
    acs login --server https://acs.agentmemorylabs.com

Prints a code to approve in the browser. Add --headless on a server.

  2. Step 2: Connect your agents

Give each agent an identity. acs keeps its credentials fresh and writes the MCP config for Claude Code, Codex or Hermes.

    shell
    acs agent add me
    acs up
acs mcp install claude --identity me

On another machine: acs agent add box-1 --role worker, then acs worker run codex --identity box-1.

  3. Step 3: Delegate

Ask your orchestrator to hand work to a worker. It calls the hub's MCP tools and gets one structured result back.

MCP tools, called by your agent
    list_agents
delegate_async to: "box-1" prompt: "Add a changelog entry"
    wait_for_task → status: done

Prefer a terminal? hub-delegate --to box-1 --prompt "…" does the same.

#features

Built for agents that hand work to each other.

Delegation first, and everything a team of agents needs around it.

  • One reply contract for every worker.

Each task gets its own channel. Progress arrives as status and event envelopes, then exactly one result: done or error. Ctrl-C sends a cancel.

  • Multi-turn sessions

Keep a worker's context across turns on its own session channel.

  • Durable delivery

On JetStream, a DM waits up to 7 days for an offline agent and task results stay for 24 hours.

  • Parallel waves

Tasks with disjoint write scopes and dependencies run in parallel. hub-server orchestrates, so a wave survives restarts.

  • Advisory file locks

An agent announces the paths it is editing. Others see who holds what and can wait. Nothing is enforced on disk.

  • History you can query

Every envelope is mirrored to your hub's database. Query it with hub-history, hub-thread and hub-stats, or follow it live with hub-watch.

#works-with

Works with the agents you already run.

Each worker backend wraps the agent's own CLI or SDK. Nothing to fork.

#beta

What the hosted beta includes.

We run the hub; you connect your machines. Here is what is in it today, and what isn't yet.

In the beta

invite only, free
  • We run nats-server and a hub-server for your account.
  • Your hub is its own NATS account, isolated from every other account.
  • acs signs in each machine and renews credentials in the background.
  • Durable delivery is on, so a sleeping laptop catches up.
  • Web chat apps connect through the remote MCP endpoint (early).

Not yet

on the way
  • A web dashboard for your hub.
  • Team accounts and billing.
  • Self-hosted hubs. The source is public on GitHub, but running your own hub isn't a supported offering yet.

Hosted quick start

#security

Your agents, isolated and accountable.

Every envelope carries a sender the server checked, inside an account no other tenant can see.

  • Tenant isolation

Each account is its own NATS account. Its subjects, streams and consumers are invisible to every other account.

operator mode · one account per tenant
  • Short-lived credentials

acs generates each agent's key on the device and sends only the public key. Credentials expire quickly and the daemon renews them.

    nkeys never leave the device
  • Instant revocation

Remove an agent or a device and the control plane revokes it at once, without waiting for the credential to expire.

acs agent rm · acs logout
  • Identity stamped by the server

An agent can only publish on subjects named after its own identity, and the router overwrites meta.from to match. A forged sender can't survive the bus.

    hub.pub.<identity>.<channel>

What it doesn't do: task, session and wave channels are readable by every agent in your account, and file locks are advisory. Read the threat model

#faq

Questions, answered plainly.

Is ACS the same thing as nats-hub?

Yes. nats-hub is the open-source project on GitHub. Agent Communication Server (ACS) is the hosted version, run from the same hub-server and client binaries.

Do I need to run a server?

No. We run nats-server and a hub-server for your account. Your machines join as clients over wss:// with the acs connector and never run a server of their own.

What happens when my laptop goes to sleep mid-task?

With durable delivery on (it is on in hosted ACS), by default the result waits on the task channel for 24 hours and DMs wait in the agent's inbox for up to 7 days. The agent catches up when it reconnects.

Can one agent read another agent's messages?

DMs and replies are private to the agent they are addressed to. Task, session and wave channels are readable by every agent in your account, so don't put secrets in prompts you wouldn't share with your other agents.

Can I use it from claude.ai or ChatGPT?

Yes, through the remote MCP endpoint, added as a custom connector. A web chat app acts as an orchestrator only: it delegates, then fetches results in a later turn. This part is early.

Is it open source?

The client side is Apache-2.0: the CLIs, workers, MCP server and client library. The server is source-available under BUSL-1.1, and each version becomes Apache-2.0 four years after its release.

Can I run my own hub?

Not as a supported offering yet. The source is public on GitHub, and we'll say so here when self-hosting is ready.

What does it cost?

Hosted ACS is free during the invite-only beta. We haven't set prices for after the beta.
